Yeow Kee Tan's Projects

  • Speech Keyword Mining System

    Team Members: Yeow Kee Tan

To deliver a keyword mining system that is capable of searching speech utterances based on the keyword of interest from a large repository of speech database. I was responsible for the transcribing system and development of the training tool.

  • Voice Identification

    Team Members: Yeow Kee Tan

System capable of recognizing the identity of the caller/speaker in a telephone call. Responsible for the in developing and managing the telephony-based data collection system that allows call transfer and call tromboning.

  • Robot Butler

    Team Members: Yeow Kee Tan

To integrate speech recognition module into the robot butler developed by SIMTech for the Fusionopolis opening ceremony. I was the principal investigator (PI) for this project.

  • Configurable Robotic Platform for Future Homes

    Team Members: Yeow Kee Tan

To develop a robotic platform with a configurable module that allows developers to configure the robot to perform various tasks upon user’s requirements. I was the Co-PI of this project leading the team to develop a configurable robotic platform.

  • Inter-RI Social Robotics Programme

    Team Members: Yeow Kee Tan

To develop a robot receptionist. I’m the Co-PI of this project and leading the robotic dialogue team to deliver modules related to speech processing (e.g. speech enhancement, speech recognition, 3D sound localization), robotic brain (Unified Robotic Framework) and a dialog management system (Apollo). Also involve in the integration of software modules and hardware for the robotic system.

  • Multimodal Sensory System

    Team Members: Yeow Kee Tan

Project manager of the project related to research and development of a platform capable of performing human/vehicle tracking, sound event localization and 3D sound localization.

  • PetH: Interactive Pet Companion for Elderly

    • October 2012 to Present
Team Members: Yeow Kee Tan, Nicole Mirnig, Anthony Wong, Limbu Dilip Kumar, Adrian Tay Hwang Jian, Tran Anh Dung, rui yan, Alvin Wong Hong Yee

This core project is related to the research and development of interactive pet companion robot with Emotion Recognition & Expression Framework (EREx). The uniqueness of this pet robot is the capability to detect emotion through different modalities and perform empathy actions through cognitive process. This project intends to achieve short and long term goal that contributes to the robotics programme: Short term goal - develop generic robotic platform and various deployable technologies/components that is ready for commercialization; long term goal – research in advance human-robot interaction through EREx

  • PeCo Project

    • September 2011 to Present
Team Members: Yeow Kee Tan, Anthony Wong, Limbu Dilip Kumar, Adrian Tay Hwang Jian, Alvin Wong Hong Yee, Tran Anh Dung, Terence Ng Wen Zheng, Tran Huy Dat, Nicole Mirnig

PECo is intended to be an entertainment robot that is designed for young children aged between 2 to 6 years old. It is a toy, a companion and also a tool to therapy for the children with autism. PECo is small, lightweight and safe to be used by young children. PeCo is also intended to be a monitoring tool to evaluate the interaction of the children with autism. Reports can be generated and access by therapist/psychologist to assess the condition of the children and plan for the appropriate therapy.

  • Sound-Eye

    • June 2012 to Present
Team Members: Yeow Kee Tan, Anthony Wong, Tran Anh Dung, Adrian Tay Hwang Jian, Tran Huy Dat, Terence Ng Wen Zheng

In Singapore, the number of elderly people living alone is expected to increase to 83,000 by 2030 – up from 35,000 now. Even though facilities such as railings, anti-slip floor tiles and ramp are installed, there still exist the chance of accidents occurring. We propose “Sound-Eye” a revolutionary emergency alert system employing sound event classification technology to detect abnormal sound events. Sound-Eye is carefully design, addressing the need of stakeholders in terms of affordability, ease-of-installation and privacy protection. Should an emergency occur, Sound-Eye can detect the natural reaction of elderly verbally screaming for assistance instantly.
